was included in my current package of Hymen promos that i recieved today,
and it's fucking blistering. Personally, I have to say that WITBOAS wasn't my favorite of Aaron's work - although i appreciate the technical aspects - it wasn't the usual Funk energy i like to rock on the decks, and as a listening album it was too oppressive somehow (except the She track). This new Hymen release really feels like a hybrid of the more beautiful/sinister melodies found on his last Mu-release paired with the incredible slamming monster jazz and breaks that defined his last Hymen - Doll Doll Doll. You can feel the harsh wind of the Winnipeg praries biting at Candace whilst she endures her last hours in a broken down shack. Seven tracks (on CD) that start with the Befriend a Child Killer Remix - an epic mashup!! - and then continue on to deliver stunning examples of Snares' beat trickery as well as more insane vocal clips. Children's Limbo (only on the cd) is sweet and sick wth the intro containing a couple of young english girls talking about where childern go to (the center of the earth) - another reminder of Candice's fate as percived by the prolific producer behind this effort. Aaron Funk never fails to bombard his listeners in one way or another, but if you thought the last LP lack that classic VS physicality, you won't be dissappointed with this one. Snare's does it again, this time leaving us to ponder his subject's position more than his own emotions...carrying on where DDD left off - the kids are the ones who should be scared. Welcome to adult listening for the new millenium.
